Sister Mary Claire Ethics Institute
The Sister Mary Claire Ethics Institute creates new educational and formational opportunities for students to develop as ethical leaders.
It works directly with both faculty and students and acts in accord with the mission and values of Anna Maria, the charisms of the Sisters of St. Anne, and the history of the College. The Institute emphasizes a more theory-based and comprehensive approach to ethics, as represented in the disciplines of philosophy and of Catholic theology, while cultivating interdisciplinary partnerships across the faculty and student body. It also fosters dialogue within the central Massachusetts community around contemporary topics in the field of ethics.
The Institute will:
- Create relevant campus programs on principled, ethical discussions of topical issues, such as speaker series, panel presentations, workshops, study and discussion groups.
- Advise faculty on relevant curricular goals and course development, including in various majors and in GenEd courses.
- Collaborate with faculty and students on the integration of ethical theory within student research projects, such as for courses in the Sr. Doris Gagnon General Education Program, the Honors Program, and Senior Seminars across the majors.
- Coordinate with the Library to identify relevant library acquisitions.
- Generate content for the College’s website, including discussion of ethical topics, recognition of ethical leadership by students, etc.
- Other activities as determined by the committee and/or recommended by the advisory board.
