All Undergraduate students must complete the College’s General Education curriculum requirements in addition to those required of the major or program. All undergraduate majors/programs require the General Education curriculum, regardless of how the program is delivered or where programs are offered.

Students will be required to take sequential writing courses:
- ENG 103, Explorations in Writing through Literature, and Explorations in Writing for Career and Creativity
** Students who are required to take ENG 102 as a prerequisite for ENG 103 will still need to complete all three writing courses listed above. Students are required to achieve a grade of C or better in ENG 102, 103, and Explorations in Writing through Literature. A grade of C or better is required for graduation. If a student does not achieve a grade of C or better within three counted attempts, they will be dismissed from the college. An attempt includes any instance of registration for the course, whether the student withdraws (resulting in a ‘W’ grade) or receives a grade of C- or lower. However, withdrawals due to documented medical emergencies will not count as an attempt.
Nursing majors; a student taking ENG 102 must still successfully complete ENG 103 and Explorations in Writing through Literature in accordance to the Traditional nursing curriculum plan.
Students will be required to take:
- PHL 110 Introduction to Philosophy *
- THE 210 Introduction to Theology *
- Explorations in Catholic Intellectual Tradition**
*Philosophy, Theology, Catholic Intellectual Tradition Sequence – Students must complete the three-course philosophy and theology sequence. After passing one ENG course, students take PHL 110 Introduction to Philosophy during their freshman year. After successful completion of PHL 110, students complete THE 210 Introduction to Theology in the sophomore year. Finally, after successfully completing both PHL 110 and THE 210, students select an approved course to meet the Explorations in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition requirement in the senior year (see below).
Students will be required to take one class that fulfills each of the following General Education Exploration Course categories (EC):
- Explorations in Social and Behavioral Sciences
- Explorations in Western Cultures and History
- Explorations in Writing through Literature
- Explorations in Culture through Language
- Explorations in Creativity and Imagination
- Explorations in Natural Sciences
- Explorations in Quantitative Reasoning

- Explorations in Ethics
**Explorations in Catholic Intellectual Tradition Exploration courses available for any given semester will be indicated through the online course scheduling system and available to students through the faculty advisors, and the Registrar’s Office. THE 210 is the prerequisite course for all Catholic Intellectual Tradition course options.
Please note that only up to two (2) classes taken to fulfill General Education Exploration Course Categories (EC) may also be counted towards fulfilling the course requirements of a Major. Speak with your advisor to learn which classes in your major may apply.
*Students are required to take a Senior Capstone Seminar course in their major.
All courses approved to meet General Education Exploration Course categories will be identified as such in the Anna Maria College online student registration portal.
General Education Requirements for Transfer Students
Transfer students enrolling at Anna Maria College with an earned Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution or who have earned a minimum of 60 transferrable credits from a regionally accredited institution are potentially eligible for General Education exemptions for first- and second-year general education courses. Anna Maria College reserves the right to require transfer students to successfully complete ENG103 and/or Explorations in Writing through Literature and any additional first- and second-year General Education courses if needed for the major.
