Program Overview

Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity (online and on ground)

The major in Cybersecurity is a four-year learning experience leading to a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity (BSCS). This major is designed to prepare students for the evolving and dynamic field of cybersecurity, to safeguard organizations on the Internet, and to enter the cybersecurity field upon graduation. This major has an interdisciplinary focus on principles from computer science, law, and mathematics.

Anna Maria College students will be educated on ethical, legal, and the regulatory aspects of cybersecurity, including cyber laws, compliance, as well as privacy. Students will be able to navigate the complex ethical issues and laws, along with an understanding of the major problems associated with the lack of cybersecurity has had on society, companies, and households.

Students who complete the Cybersecurity curriculum will not only be prepared for a career as a cybersecurity professional, they will also be well positioned to obtain a number of certifications which will increase their employability, including Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and Certified Forensic Examiner. Anna Maria College students will be encouraged and mentored to seek out internships to gain practical experiences in the field.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and explain common cyber threats and attacks, including malware, social engineering, and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.
  • Develop and implement security measures to protect systems, networks, and data against cyber threats and attacks.
  • Assess and evaluate an organization’s current security measures and provide recommendations for improvements to mitigate potential cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze and evaluate the security of computer and network systems, including identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities and providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Apply ethical and legal principles to manage and secure information technology systems and data.
    Develop and implement security policies and procedures based on industry best practices and compliance regulations.
  • Apply principles of data privacy and confidentiality to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally about cybersecurity concepts, practices, and initiatives to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Conduct research and analysis on cybersecurity challenges and emerging trends to develop innovative and secure solutions.
  • Apply knowledge and skills gained from coursework to real-world cybersecurity scenarios.
