AMC Esports is officially back for the spring semester, and we’ve already seen a handful of matches wrap up. Before we get too far into this season, here’s a quick look at how last fall played out.

In Super Smash Bros., freshman Ben Milgate had an impressive debut, going 6-1 and earning a playoff spot. NBA 2K player Sebastian Jouissance also made noise in his first season, finishing 5-2 with a playoff run. In Street Fighter 6, Aaron Vazquez went 4-3.

Team performances were strong across the board. Rocket League finished 4-3, while Overwatch had a standout run, going 5-0 in ECC and winning the Fall ECC Championship. They also competed in ECAC, finishing 4-3 and narrowly missing the playoffs. Call of Duty ended with a 3-4 record and is looking to bounce back this spring. Team Apex had one of the most notable finishes, placing 33rd nationally and making a playoff appearance.

Now, onto this season…

Team Apex kicked things off last Monday with serious momentum. This spring, AMC Esports has two Apex teams competing. Both opened strong, finishing in the top six of their groups. They’re already gearing up for the tougher matchups ahead.

On Tuesday, Team Overwatch faced Army West Point and came out sharp, sweeping three quick maps to start their spring season on the right foot. The team looks to carry that energy into their next match later this week. NBA 2K, however, ran into a tough loss Tuesday night and is focused on regrouping.

Wednesday brought a nail-biter for Super Smash Bros. player Ben Milgate. He pushed his match to a game five in a best-of-five series, with the final game coming down to last stock. It was a close one, but he fell just short. He’ll be looking to bounce back in his next matchup.

Thursday featured matches for both Overwatch and Rocket League. Overwatch came out strong but ultimately fell 1-3. Rocket League, on the other hand, opened their season in dominant fashion with a 4-0 sweep, building momentum heading into their next game.

You can catch the action tonight, and most nights, at twitch.tv/annamariaesports, where Team Overwatch and Team CoD will be competing live.

Player of the week is Brock Hill, Captain, Rocket League
