Anna Maria College recently introduced the Dual-Degree M.Ed program to create a more affordable and flexible pathway for future educators. The program seeks to not only give students more freedom in their college career but also to prepare them for their future profession quicker, whether it be in the classroom as an educator, or in educational leadership positions such as administration.
More Freedom at a Cheaper Price
With the new Dual-Degree M.Ed. program, students are given the freedom to pursue any bachelor’s degree while simultaneously pursuing a master’s degree in education. Throughout the student’s undergraduate journey, they will take courses to complete their chosen Bachelor’s degree, a Minor in Education, and graduate level M.Ed. courses.
Overtime, these class credits will accumulate, and students will be able to complete their Graduate courses in just 2 additional semesters. As a result, the postgraduate student will have a bachelor’s degree in a study of their choosing, as well as a master’s in education. By only having to enroll for one year of Graduate schooling, students will be saving nearly $10,000 in tuition by having a $510 per credit discount as they take the fast lane towards their M.Ed.
From The Professional’s Perspective
Chair of Anna Maria’s Department of Education, Shelie Wells, was able to share some thoughts with us about the new program. She brought up how this program aligns with the needs of the workforce, and how it responds to a need for more high-quality educators. Wells also brought up the importance of the flexibility within the program, as it supports students who decide late into their undergraduate journey that they want to pursue teaching or a future leadership role in education.
