Anna Maria College is the recipient of grants from three Worcester-based foundations: The George I. Alden Trust, The Fletcher Foundation, and the Stoddard Charitable Trust. Totaling $975,000, these awarded funds will be used to purchase nursing equipment and support Anna Maria College’s new Nursing Simulation and Clinical Labs as it continues its commitment to educating students who positively impact the public good.
In September, Anna Maria College officially opened its newly remodeled clinical education space. The 7,000 sq. ft. wing serves as the dedicated home for nursing simulation labs, clinical labs, and paramedic training. The building initiative was the result of $1 Million in community project funding secured by Congressman James P. McGovern (MA-02). Designed by Derck & Edson and constructed by Rubicon, plans for the new clinical space were announced in May 2023. The goal of the government funding was to enrich the educational experience for future essential workers. These future workers will fill the void left by nursing shortages created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The financial support by The George I. Alden Trust, The Fletcher Foundation, and the Stoddard Charitable Trust underscores the community’s need for trained and competent clinical and emergency professionals at a time when worker shortages are creating a healthcare crisis,” said Anna Maria College President Mary Lou Retelle, “Through these funds, Anna Maria College will be able to acquire the equipment necessary to train the nurses and paramedics of the future. We are grateful to the foundations for their continued generosity, but more importantly to their dedication to helping aspiring students achieve their goals of helping others.”
