Anna Maria College’s 74th Commencement Exercises are scheduled for Monday, May 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester. The College will bestow honorary degrees on Peter Caparso, a business executive and start-up investor, and posthumously on Sister Carol Proietti, a Sister of St. Anne. Peter Caparso will deliver the commencement address. Meghan J. Sonia, a senior Nursing major from Martha’s Vineyard, will represent the Class of 2023 as the student speaker.
Commencement speaker and Honorary degree recipient Peter Caparso is a seasoned business executive and investor with over 34 years of experience working with large, mid-size and start-up companies. He has a proven track record of creating, growing, and leading companies. He currently serves on the Board of Regents for Boston College and is a Knight of Malta. Peter is a former resident of Worcester, MA, and a graduate of St. John’s in Shrewsbury.
Honorary degree recipient Sister Carol Proietti, SSA, taught English, Journalism, and Literature at schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne throughout Massachusetts and is an alumnus of Anna Maria College and Boston College. She was a respected and popular teacher and a strong advocate for Peace and Justice issues. She was visible at the Massachusetts State House for protests against the Death Penalty and similar concerns.

Meghan J. Sonia is a graduating senior Nursing major and student-athlete. She played on the Field Hockey, Women’s Ice Hockey and Softball teams during her four years at Anna Maria. She was Field Hockey captain this past year and was Ice Hockey Assistant Captain during her sophomore year. Meghan Sonia is from West Tisbury, MA, on Martha’s Vineyard.
The Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated in Fuller Activities Center at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13. The Social Work Pinning ceremony will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday followed at 3:00 p.m. by the Nursing Pinning ceremony.
