Life in the First Year Lane is a series documenting the experiences of first year students in Madonna Hall as they begin their college journeys with Anna Maria College. From living away from home for the first time to joining clubs and sports teams and beginning their academic pursuits, the Class of 2027 has so many exciting milestones to look forward to!

How did you hear about Anna Maria College all the way from Utah?

I had originally learned about Anna Maria College while I was at a softball camp in Las Vegas. Softball Head Coach Larry Sasso invited me to tour the campus, and while I was visiting, I decided Anna Maria was the place for me.

What do you hope to do with your Graphic Design degree?

I hope to grow my design portfolio and create a start to my career as a Graphic Designer. With my degree I want to go into a marketing career where I brand and market for various companies.

What are your favorite things about Anna Maria College so far?

Anna Maria has provided the opportunity for me to grow wonderful connections with multiple people from across the world. On the softball team alone, I have had the pleasure of meeting people from Texas all the way to Vermont. I have made great friendships on the team and hope to grow them during my time here.

Is it hard being away from your hometown in Utah?

Although my time here has been short so far, I find myself missing home from time to time. To help keep homesickness at bay, I talk with my loved ones from home. I also like to stay busy and grow connections here.

What do you do for fun on campus or in Worcester?

Oftentimes my roommate and I will go to get coffee or just walk around campus. For fun we will go to our friends’ dorm rooms. There are multiple restaurants and coffee shops in Worcester to keep you occupied on the weekend and when you’re out of class. The most important advice I could give is to create your own fun. Paint, drive, do puzzles, or something else, but the best thing you can do is find people who will do those things with you.
