Anyone who has sat in one of Professor Travis Maruska’s classes knows that his passion for movies runs deep. Trained as a screenwriter, Maruska decided to transform his storytelling into another format and recently published a novel, Order of the Assassin Book I: The Adept.

The fantasy story follows the journey of a young man who is drawn into a league of assassins where he learns the art of burglary, disguise, and assassination after witnessing a murder.

Maruska was inspired to explore the fantasy genre after running a Dungeons & Dragons game. After writing eight drafts, Maruska ended up with a story he really liked and thought other readers would enjoy.

Writing and publishing the novel was a long but rewarding process for Maruska. “There are a number of moments where I was proud of my work from mastering a scene and getting kind feedback from readers to actually holding the book in my hands for the first time,” he said.

His book is currently available on Amazon with a sequel already in the works.

He would advise any students or fellow writers who are interested in publishing their creative writing to “write, don’t be afraid of feedback, and always have your goal in mind.”
