Central Massachusetts is facing a critical shortage of qualified social workers, and Anna Maria College is stepping up to meet this urgent need with the launch of a part-time hybrid Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program offered at Quinsigamond Community College’s Worcester campus. Associate Degree holders can enroll now at this link for classes beginning in January 2026.

Flexible Hybrid Format for Working Professionals

The flexible program features Saturday morning classes at QCC combined with online coursework, allowing working professionals and community college graduates to advance their careers without sacrificing their current commitments. Students progress through the affordable, three-year program in supportive cohorts, taking just two courses each semester while building lasting professional networks.

The Region’s Only CSWE-Accredited BSW Satellite Program

As the only campus-based Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited BSW program in Central Massachusetts, Anna Maria College has long been committed to training the next generation of social workers. This satellite program at QCC’s main campus extends the program’s reach to students who need additional flexibility and accessibility.

“Recognizing that many aspiring social workers are juggling careers, family responsibilities, and educational goals, we created a flexible pathway for working professionals,” said Dr. Jason Ostrander, Anna Maria College’s BSW Program Director and Assistant Professor of Social Work. “Our cohort model ensures students build lasting professional networks while receiving individualized support throughout their academic journey. Graduates will be immediately prepared to serve vulnerable populations in schools, healthcare systems, child welfare agencies, and community organizations throughout the region.”

A Pathway to Licensure and Advanced Study

The program offers distinct advantages for career-focused students. BSW graduates are eligible for Massachusetts Licensed Social Worker (LSW) credentials, providing immediate workforce entry opportunities. Additionally, program completers may qualify for advanced standing in Anna Maria’s Master of Social Work program, potentially saving a full year of graduate study.

The comprehensive curriculum combines theoretical foundation with practical application through courses in Human Behavior and the Social Environment, Social Welfare Policy, Research Methods, and progressive Social Work Practice. Students gain invaluable real-world experience through 525 hours of field education in local agencies, with placements carefully structured to build professional competency.

Transfer-Friendly Enrollment and Next Steps

This transfer-friendly program is specifically designed for QCC associate degree graduates and other community college students ready to take the next step in their educational journey. With the first cohort launching in January 2026, students should apply now to secure a place in this inaugural class. Contact Dr. Jason Ostrander at jostrander@annamaria.edu to learn more.
