September 11th 2021 Remembrance Ceremony

Anna Maria College hosted an interfaith tribute for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 on Saturday, September 11 2021 on Caparso Field. Under the leadership of Anna Maria College Deacon John “Jack” Franchi, the College commemorated the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. John Creamer, husband of Tara Creamer who was aboard American Airlines Flight 11, was an honored guest along with his family. The tribute featured a Joint Service Military Honor Guard from area college ROTC Detachments, a keynote speech by former Boston Police Commissioner and Anna Maria College alumnus Ed Davis 90G, and remarks from local, state and federal officials. The Master of Ceremonies was former NECN anchor Mike Nikitas. A “Freedom Tree” donated by Home Depot, and a granite monument donated by Empire Granite and Worcester County Memorial Park, was blessed by local faith leaders.

Anna Maria College’s Operation Patriotism: Challenge Coin

The tradition of the challenge coin stems from ancient Roman times and was later adopted by modern military during WWI. The presentation of a special coin spread to non-military units including the U.S. Congress to commemorate important events.

Anna Maria College had this special “Operation Patriotism” coin minted in remembrance of the 20th Anniversary of 9/11.
