As an artist living her whole life immersed in the forests of Massachusetts, it is no wonder Howland’s work has come to reflect the wonders of the natural world. Her art expresses a deep love for and connection with nature, informed by the universal forms and patterns which repeat themselves in unexpected and sometimes mysterious ways. Howland creates mixed media sculptures using materials such as (but not limited to) clay, stone, felting wool, plaster, and even plastic waste.
Howland received her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual and Performing Arts from Worcester State University and her Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College in Vermont. She has been a member of ArtsWorcester since 2018 and has exhibited art in their gallery multiple times. She has also exhibited at The Worcester Art Museum, The Beaman Public Library, Cambridge Art Association galleries, Goddard College, Eliot D. Pratt Library, Beech Tree Gallery, Fivesparks Gallery, and Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery. Howland currently teaches Studio Art at Worcester State University and travels all over the state to teach Neurographic Drawing as a meditative practice. She also created and runs an Art Group called “Roots of Creation” out of Worcester, MA.
