Job Title: Student Accounts Collections Specialist and Cashier
Type: Full-Time, Monday-Friday

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, families, third-party agencies, and college staff regarding student account inquiries.
  • Answer questions by phone and email as assigned, and help direct calls.
  • Responsible for handling daily payment transactions including cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Assist students with transactions of payments in-person, over the phone, and online.
  • Prepare and deliver the daily bank deposit.
  • Create, update, and maintain spreadsheets for the Business Office and Student Accounts Office.
  • Prepare daily/weekly reports, including S-Debit, Publishing Bills, and Outstanding balances.
  • Work with the Business Office to reconcile student payments.
  • Research sources of account imbalances discrepancies.
  • Identify and research past-due accounts that are potential candidates for Collection Services.
  • Assist with notifying students of balances due and settling their financial obligation prior to collection activity, including sending pre-collection letters, troubleshooting and resolving account issues, negotiating-house payment agreements, and responding to disputes.
  • Prepare and execute the placement of accounts with Collection Services.
  • Code collection accounts in Empower and track/monitor these accounts.
  • Respond and prepare legal authorization requests for the college’s litigation liaison.
  • Oversee and reconcile the monthly inventory of all student accounts between Collection Services and Empower; and ensure that each system is in sync.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and important on-campus events, including Orientation, Move-In, and Welcome Weekend.
  • The candidate will also be expected to provide backup to the Director and Assistant Director during peak periods, and assist the office with mass mailings, and the audit.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Supervision Received: Director of Student Accounts
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • 3-5 years of customer service experience, the major duties of which involved cashiering, bookkeeping, account recording or the direct handling of funds received or paid out.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of the standard procedures and methods followed in handling and recording cash.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic and the ability to apply this knowledge with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes, and/or symbols, and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work occasional nights/weekends as needed.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and work independently as needed.
  • Ability to type and create or maintain spreadsheets.
  • Ability to successfully pass a thorough background check and CORI check
