Biography
Before becoming a faculty member at Anna Maria College, I held clinical music therapy positions at a community music school program for children with developmental disabilities, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, several nursing homes, and a Head Start Early Intervention Program. I have chronicled the clinical use of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) in many book chapters, articles, and a doctoral dissertation; authored two textbooks "Guided Imagery and Music in the Institutional Setting" and "Music: The New-Age Elixir," and edited a textbook called "Music and Consciousness: The Evolution of Guided Imagery and Music." After a decade of directing Helen Bonny's (the founder of GIM) GIM Training, I now travel internationally, teaching in the U.S., Europe and Asia, with ongoing trainings in China, South Korea, Scotland, and Berlin. I am active in the American Music Therapy Association, and received regional Presidential Awards for "Outstanding Research Achievements" (1991) and "Dedication and Service to the Field" (1998, 2011). In 2017 I was given the AMTA National Presidential Award of Merit and my professional biography was selected for inclusion with other prominent music therapists in the publication: “The Lives of Music Therapists: Profiles in Creativity.” I have been director of the undergraduate Music Therapy Program at Anna Maria College for more than 25 years, developing clinical placements and new music therapy positions in a wide variety of community settings throughout New England. us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
