In order to be enrolled in any of the following courses, you must apply for admission to the AMC Graduate Music & Imagery Certification Program. Applicants must have the entry level music therapy credential or be currently enrolled in a graduate music therapy program.

Music & Imagery Training Levels
Level I
Requirements
MI 502 Music & Imagery for Wellness
Two Graduate Credits / 30 CEUs
This four-day course provides the expertise to design and implement individualized, single session music and imagery techniques. The curriculum focuses on quick assessment; and the development of effective spontaneous, client-centered inductions and music to stimulate imagery. There is an emphasis on treatment for stress, anxiety or pain with individual clients.
Pre-requisite: Entry level Music Therapy credential OR currently enrolled in graduate Music Therapy program

Wellness Practicum
Trainees conduct six hours of supervised sessions with individual clients in the distance learning format. This practicum course provides the application for the knowledge and skills learned in MI 502.

MI 601 Music & Imagery as Music Psychotherapy
This six-day practicum provides the expertise to design and implement music and imagery techniques for individual clients in music psychotherapy. It teaches the following skills: music programming for all phases of the therapeutic process, imagery inductions, guiding and processing imagery, assessment of psycho-dynamic material and symbolic imagery experiences, and indications and contraindications for practice. It integrates knowledge of the therapeutic process with music and imagery skills and prepares the trainee for the real world of establishing a private practice in music psychotherapy.
Pre-requisite: Level I (MI 502, MI 502 P) at AMC OR Level I GIM Training from an AMI Approved Institute

Music Psychotherapy Practicum
Trainees conduct 14 hours of supervised fieldwork in short-term music psychotherapy with individual clients in the distance learning format. This clinically-based course provides the application for the knowledge and skills learned in MI 601.

Guided Imagery and Music
MI 701 Programming Music for GIM
One Graduate Credit / 15 CEUs
Advanced concepts and skills in the use of programmed classical music, and an historical perspective of the Bonny Method as preparation for conducting GIM sessions.

MI 702 Theory, Research & Professional
One Graduate Credit / 15 CEUs
This course examines the available body of GIM literature (in print and online publications) in order to integrate knowledge of theory, research, and current clinical applications. In addition, it prepares students for the ethical dilemmas that confront a private practitioner in music psychotherapy and gives practical direction for developing a viable private practice in the real world.

MI 703 Basic Rudiments of GIM Practice
Three Graduate Credits / 45 CEUs
An examination of the unique function of each component of the GIM session as it contributes to the client's psychological and spiritual transformation; provides skills to conduct each component from a client-centered perspective. There is an emphasis upon the interactive effects of music, verbal interventions, and consciousness.

MI 703P GIM Basic Practicum
Trainees conduct 50 sessions of supervised fieldwork with individual clients in the distance-learning format. This practicum provides the clinical application for the knowledge and skills acquired in MI 703.

MI 704 Advanced Techniques of GIM Practice
Advanced skills in working with psycho-dynamic and existential issues that emerge in response to classical music programs. It provides an in-depth examination of music-stimulated images of transcendence and peak experiences, using music-centered and trans-personal theories of psychotherapy.

MI 704P GIM Advanced Practicum
